Marilyn G. Wood, RN, President and Chief Executive Officer
For more than four decades, Marilyn has dedicated her professional life to the service of others. Beginning as a floor nurse, then Director of Nursing, Administrator, and Senior Vice President for Operations, she has served in a wide range of roles, with increasing levels of responsibility and authority, for leading healthcare organizations nationwide.
Today, as President and Chief Executive Officer, she is responsible for overseeing and directing all aspects of center operations under the Opis Senior Senior Services corporate umbrella.
As part of the original management team that formed Opis in 2003, Marilyn has championed the organization’s caring mission from the very first. Her dedication and leadership continues to ensure that each customer and family we serve receives the unwavering level of exceptional quality care, in respectful, warm, welcoming environments that both enhance outcomes and contribute to a dignified and uplifting quality of life.
Always striving to “make a positive difference” in the lives of the elders and other vulnerable members of the community who turn to us for care has elevated Marilyn to an acknowledged place among the nation’s leading healthcare executives.
As an active member of the Florida Health Care Association (FHCA), she chaired the Quality Credentialing Committee and was responsible for drafting the original Quality Credentialing Program in 2001. Since its implementation, this program has become an essential component of Association membership, demonstrating a commitment to full accountability for the quality of services provided to the residents of long-term care centers throughout the state.
In 2013-2014, Marilyn also chaired the Our Florida Promise (OFP) organization. Working in partnership with FHCA, the group strives to bring about legislative action in support of long-term care provider interests and the industry’s ability to better serve residents and patients.
Here at Opis, her efforts have included annual staff trips to the State Capitol to lobby for bills benefiting our customers, families and industry co-workers; and on-site tours for legislators to observe first-hand the exemplary care that progressive centers provide. On many occasions, she has also testified before Florida state lawmakers on behalf of all caregivers in the post-acute continuum.
In recognition of her decades-long service commitment, in 2012 Marilyn received the Arthur H. Harris Government Services Award. This prestigious award honors the FHCA member who most effectively advances the Association’s legislative initiatives and advocates on behalf of the long-term care profession and those we serve at both the state and federal level.
